That's right folks, come April 15th 2010, the original Xbox will have its Live compatibility switched off for good.

If you're thinking, "ah well, never even owned an Xbox anyway", the switch off also extends to the 360 playing the classic games (such as Halo 2).

Major Nelson explains that:

“We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features.”
